Visual Art & Photography

We accept visual art and photography to be published alongside and independently of written work.

• Up to 5 images per submission

• High-quality image files (JPEG or PNG preferred)

• Maximum file size: 10MB per image

• Short artist statement (100–150 words)

• No submission fee

Submission Limits

• A maximum of two submissions per person per reading period

• Multiple and simultaneous submissions are allowed

• Please notify us promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere

Formatting Guidelines (Written Work)

• 11.5–12pt font

• 1.5 line spacing

• Submit prose as a single document (PDF or .doc/.docx)

• Include the title and word count on the first page

• Please remove your name and any identifying information from the manuscript

Submissions are read anonymously.

Cover Letter (Optional)

Cover letters are optional. You may use this space to:

• note anonymity or pen name preferences

• provide brief context for your work

• share any information you would like the editors to know

Your work will be considered on its own merit regardless of whether a cover letter is included.

Bio (Optional)

If accepted, contributors may include a short bio (under 100 words).
Pen names and anonymity are welcome.

Fees & Waivers

The submission fee for written work is €5 per submission. Visual art and photography submissions are free.

Submission fees from writers contribute directly to publication costs and contributor payment. Fee waivers are available to any writer who needs one.

*Submission fees may be refunded within 24 hours of submission. After this time, fees are non-refundable.*

Payment

Folie is committed to paying contributors. At launch, we offer an honorarium of €30 per published entry, with the intention of increasing contributor payment as the journal grows.

Rights

All rights remain with the author or artist. By submitting to Journal de Folie, contributors grant first publication rights only. Rights revert immediately to the creator after publication.

If your work is republished elsewhere, please credit Journal de Folie as the place of first publication.

Response Time

We aim to respond to all submissions within 2–4 weeks.

Due to volume, we are unable to provide individual feedback on every submission.

Submission Agreement

By submitting, you confirm that:

• the work is your original creation

• you grant first publication rights to Journal de Folie if accepted

• you agree to credit Journal de Folie as the first publisher if republishing
